- Abstract:
The article looks at the wearing of head scarves in Egypt as of October 2012. Concerns that, following the 2011 Arab Spring uprising and ousting of military dictator Hosni Mubarak, the country is moving toward a more conservative Islamic society are considered. Other topics include the piety and conservatism of Egypt's first lady Naglaa Ali Mahmoud and whether the head scarf is a sign of women's freedom or their oppression.
