A consortium of American, British, Dutch-Italian, and Japanse firms allegedly paid millions in bribes for construction contracts of a liquefied natural gas facility on Nigeria's Bonny Island, says the article. The wrongdoing was discovered by French authorities then American prosecutors picked up the case and reached settlements totaling 1.66 billion U.S. dollars. Settlements were also made by Nigerian, British, and Italian prosecutors.
