The article discusses the state censorship of media in Hong Kong which resulted to obscenity rulings to discourage positive media representations of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) subjects. An overview of the proliferation of queer media productions before Hong Kong's handover to China in 1997 is provided. It compares Hong Kong's queer culture and politics with other areas in the region such as the Taipei, Taiwan. It looks at the queer cultural projects that include community online television channels and activist-driven Internet radio programs.
