    • Abstract:
The article discusses a report from the "Journal of American Medical Association" that found child marriages in South Asia have been decreasing since 1991 for girls 14 and under. Countries featured in the research include Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan. According to the study, the decrease in Bangladesh and Nepal can be attributed to the countries' increased focus on childhood education. Rates for girls in their mid-teens did not seem the same increase, however. Study organizer Professor Anita Raj states that this may be due to the lack of career opportunities and the end of secondary education facing these girls. Other topics covered include impacts on public health, education reforms, and teen pregnancy rates.
