- Abstract:
The article discusses the importance of publicizing and celebrating the lives of individuals who fight for human rights and progressive social change. It lauds the town of West Chester, Pennsylvania, which named a high school after gay civil-rights activist Bayard Rustin. It presents profiles of several young adults in the U.S. who the author says are notable for their progressive activism and should be studied and celebrated in the future. Included are Angelica Salas, who heads an immigrant rights group in California, Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins, who organizes for unified action by the U.S. labor and environmental movements, and community activist and New York City Council member Brad Lander.
