    • Abstract:
The article presents an analysis of the mass media function, and its relation with the political system in which they operate. The author focuses on the freedom of information within democratic systems as oppose to totalitarian systems. In the first case the media is at the service of the society, and in the second, is at the service of the State. Reference is made to the Press and Printing Law, adopted in Spain in 1966, which ended 28 years of previous censorship, and many controls on the profession, as well as the content of information.
