- Abstract:
The article offers insights on the quality of a horse's shoulder conformation. The author seeks to negate the notion influenced by British chief cavalry veterinarian Captain M. Horace Hayes that the shoulder of Thoroughbred horses is the only good shoulder. Good-quality shoulders have many forms and they suit different functions, the author notes. Several illustrations to show shoulder and upper forelimb construction are provided. The different styles of movement of horses are discussed.
