- Abstract: We propose a new analysis of the contemporary history of Andalusia. We show partial results of an ongoing research project about the democratization processes in Andalusia during the late nineteenth and twentieth century. First, we criticize the traditional accounts that have ignored these processes. Second, we show the theoretical contributions that we consider are most useful to build a different view from the traditional history of Andalusia. We outline some notes to make an «alternative» story that focuses on the democratization process. Finally, we present particular examples that corroborate some hypotheses, especially those concerning the cliche about the political apathy of the Andalusian peasantry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
