    • Abstract:
The article discusses the destruction of extremely important ancient documents and manuscripts by fire at the Institut d'Égypte in Cairo, Egypt in December 2011. The fire began as a result of the Egyptian protests against the military regime established in the wake of the 2011 Egyptian riots against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Protesters, soldiers, and firefighters were only able to save a small portion of the documents. Important volumes lost include "Description de l'Égypte" and "Atlas of Lower and Upper Egypt."
