    • Abstract:
The article focuses on the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences near Palo Alto, California, with particular focus on the hiring of director Stephen Kosslyn in 2011 in hopes of reimagining the center's mission and attracting top scholars. A historical overview of the center is provided, including its creation in 1954 by the Ford Foundation and takeover by Stanford University in response to the global financial crisis of 2008-2009. Kosslyn hopes to focus the institution on translational social science research, incorporating impact networks of collaborating scholars to apply combat specific real-world social problems as well as center institutes for the study of broader issues.
