- Abstract:
The article examines the decline and destruction of various Jewish communities in Greece during the Second World War. The Christian compatriots were not hostile to the Jews of Salonica during the period of deportations. The Germans played on the greed of the local population to increase the isolation of the Jewish communities. Some Jewish homes were given to collaborators, their properties were confiscated and distributed, the graveyards were destroyed, and the stone monuments were recycled for municipal repairs and private profit.
