      The article discusses eight reasons why payer interoperability and data sharing are essential in accountable care organizations (ACOs). These include the importance of payer role, member's health lifecycle, standardization of billing and claims operations/management, clinical decision support, enhanced eligibility, cost savings, development of a sustainable model of an health information exchange (HIE), and HIE-to-HIE collaboration and connectivity.
