POLISH HISTORICAL-MEDICAL PROBLEMS FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF CALENDAR YEAR 2008. (English)

This article begins by noting the changes the journal, "Archiwum Historii i Filozofii Medycyny," adopted upon the publication of its 70th volume, and the financial challenges it faces. The author argues that a future merger of Poland's two medical history periodicals (both of which are funded by the Polish Academy of Sciences) is worth serious consideration. He also supports the adoption and institution of "The History of Medical Sciences" as an accepted discipline in Polish universities, so that Polish scholarship and research is on par with other European Union nations. The author ends the piece by noting important events and issues concerning the history of medicine in Poland in the year 2008 (among them the publication of selected translated works of Hippocrates).
