      The article discusses a 2010 fire at the Universiteit Stellenbosch in South Africa, which destroyed the history department's physical space and historical archives in the Wilcocks Building. Specifically the African History Department was entirely destroyed along with 106 years of artifacts, including maps, a restored painting, photographs, theses, a valuable wooden table, and other items. No casualties occurred in the fire, which burned for an hour before being extinguished. As a result of the fire many incomplete academic works were forced to be abandoned.
