    • Abstract:
In this article the author reviews pre- and postoperative thromboprophylaxis strategies used in European countries. It states that risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total hip or knee replacement therapy is high as several pro-thrombotic processes are involved. It highlights that anticoagulants rivaroxaban and apixaban given after replacement surgery are as effective as enoxaparin given before surgery.
