    • Abstract:
This paper presents an environmental analysis of the markets for hospital services and suggests that these markets are in a transition from access-oriented, rapid-growth markets to efficiency-oriented, slower-growth markets. It purports that survival in such an environment requires increasing attention to marketing and strategic planning. The paper then suggests that statistical modeling and simulation can be valuable tools in developing plans and marketing strategies, and it provides an example of such models for estimating and evaluating future utilization.
