- Abstract:
The article refers to the dynamics of conflict and cooperation in human relationships and industrial relations in the United States. Factors that restrict human cooperativeness and support a pattern of conflict are: enforced cooperation in the division of labor resulting from technology or management authority; the division of living that influences employees' attitudes about work and life; personification of negativity in management that results in resistance to change and resentment among workers; distance in relations between managers and subordinates; and employees' values and beliefs in the factory community. Topics include four aspects of the union shop, as well as suggestions for building group relations and reducing tensions through communication during labor disputes.
