- Abstract:
The works that have been done in the Spanish cathedrals during the baroque period can be considered as the broadest and richest in terms of formal solutions and iconographic enrichment. Several cathedrals were finished on the seventeenth and eighteenth century mainly in Andalusia, but also, on the rest of Spain. Some internal elements of the cathedrals as ambulatory, choirs on the central zones and big chapels and other auxiliary dependencies were added. Looking at the envelope of the cathedrals: new façades were build with rich and complex iconography whereas some antique ones were refurbished. Also in the middle ages the towers were modified: The existing ones were raised higher and the ones not terminated were completely finish. All this movement had its maximum at the first half of the 18th century, but it would start being hardly criticize by the implementation of the neoclassical aesthetics. The destruction and despise to this style were maintained until our days. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
