    • Abstract:
The article focuses on the story of the Calydonian boar hunt depicted in the painting "Atalanta and Meleager Hunt the Calydonian Boar," featured in the cover of the December 2011 issue of the journal "Emerging Infectious Diseases." The Sus scrofa wild boar species were said to be native to Europe and the Mediterranean region. Among the virtues embodied by the animal in the wild are power, cleverness and initiative. The first depiction of the hunt was by potter Ergotimos and the painter Kleitias. According to the author, safeguarding public health from emerging human disease requires the universal use of control of livestock infections.
