    • Abstract:
The article explores the study of the state of consciousness as it applies to anaesthesia. An overview of research is given, including the functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) of the areas of the brain affected, brain electroencephalographs (EEG) that found changes in the synchrony between areas of the sensory cortex, and a comparison of the brain electrical activity of anaesthetised subjects with those in persistent vegetative states (PVS) or coma.
