      An interview with American poet Philip Levine is presented in light of his appointment as the U.S. poet laureate consultant in poetry for 2011-2012. When asked about how he feels about the appointment, Levine remarks that he was relatively surprised because of his advanced age and his history of political radicalism. He discusses the importance of libraries in his childhood, his experiences with academic libraries, and the relationship between verse and poetry.
