    • Abstract:
The article discusses the educational system and culture of South Korea, as of December 2011. It emphasizes the intense pressure on children to do well in school, and the detrimental effects this can have on their health. The country earns some of the highest scores on international educational standards comparisons, but South Korean students often study from eight o'clock in the morning until late at night. The South Korean government has begun enforcing a curfew on after-hours tutoring schools called hagwons, to prevent them from operating past 10 o'clock in the evening.
