    • Abstract:
The term "culture industry", a standard concept in the vocabulary of the sociology of culture, media and communication, generally refers to the business enterprises operating in the field of culture and communication. Yet to the authors who coined it, Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, the notion had a broader meaning, at the interface between aesthetics, political economics and psychoanalysis. While aesthetics explores the internal features of cultural works, political economics examines the transformations of capitalism, and psychoanalysis focuses on the future of the individual according to changes in family structures. By failing to grasp the relationship between these different domains, we lose the singular significance of the concept of culture industry. This article explores the birth and development of this concept in Adorno's work, up to its late revival, insisting on the role of empirical research in the interdisciplinary context of the Institute of Social Research. The aim is to highlight its importance and to re-examine it from a contemporary perspective. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
    • Abstract:
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
