    • Abstract:
This article presents an overview of equality and non-discrimination principles in the EU legislation. These two principles have played a pivotal role in shaping European citizenship. They have also contributed to the development of the internal market and EU policies. All European institutions and EU Member States have an obligation to protect equality and tackle discrimination by means of the relevant and timely legislation, law enforcement and provision of equal social opportunities.
