    • Abstract:
Since 2004 Latvia has been a member of European Union. Joining the Union was the major objective of Latvia's Power. Membership in the Union promised wide opportunities both for entrepreneurs and other citizens: open European market for our products, free travel without borders and visas, as well as the huge funds available for our economics. The goal of the study is to analyse the cooperation of Latvia with EU. Tasks: to explore theoretical literature and media sources of information, reflecting Latvia's cooperation with EU. Methods: analysis of theoretical literature and sources. Conclusions: joining the European Community was accompanied by opening our local market for European goods and accepting European standards and norms that made the local production more and more expensive. Furthermore, the structural funds, available for Latvian economics, did not develop the fundamental sector of economics; the resources were directed to cover expenses, the majority of which were unnecessary. Finally, despite all the inconveniences for our economics from membership in EU, Latvia's instalments to European budget balances the sum of grants received for projects of Cohesion fund and Structural funds implemented in Latvia. This means that our membership in EU was not aimed at cohesion of living standards among old and new members, but our joining provided new sales markets for old states' industries on account of newcomers of EU. Therefore, this cooperation is not convenient for Latvia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
