The article discusses the contribution of journalists to political campaigns in the U.S. as of January 2011. It cites a survey which showed that journalists are perceived to be closet Democrats with ethics the same as car salesmen. Editor Martin Baron argues that a journalist must keep his political checkbook to himself in order to be transparent. It notes the suspension of "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann after he gave 2,400 dollars to political candidates.
