      The article discusses riots that took place in London, England in August 2011. In the author's view the unrest was an expression of anger on the part of a growing underclass that increasingly finds its paths to a good education and middle-class lifestyle cut off. She opines that public violence is to be expected when governments cut aid to the poor while protecting the interests of the more affluent.
