    • Abstract:
The article presents information on the history of Kuwait. Archaeological finds on Failaka indicate that the island used to be a trading post at the time of the ancient Sumerians, serving as a market for approximately 2,000 years. The country gained its independence from the British under Sheikh Abdullah al-Salim Al Sabah. Kuwait was attacked and invaded by Iraq in August 1990, finally achieving liberty when a United Nations (UN)-mandated coalition led by the U.S. launched a ground assault in February 1991.
