This article discusses several essays related to Irish labor history. The two essays by Helga Woggon are new works, and, as many of her other writings have appeared in German, there is an additional appeal to what she has to say. Her most important general contribution is at the crossroads of gender and labor. Even today, too little is known about female trade unionists and working-class political operators. On the other hand, the essay on Fearon constitutes an interesting study of a prominent Irish socialist. Like Peadar O'Donnell, Fearon was important in local trade unionism to such an extent that, as things moved outwards, he, too, became a national player.
