- Abstract: The author reflects on the social unrest in Arab societies in 2011 and U.S. resistance to the upheavals. It states that during the uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia, the U.S. vacillated between supporting the uprising and the dictators due to its desire to best maintain strategic interests in both nations. It mentions that the U.S. has a history of military interventions, diplomacy, and economic policies in the region and suggests the uprisings are partly a struggle to end these imperial practices.
