- Abstract:
The article offers ways that enable cities, towns and rural areas reduce their dependence on automobiles and the polluting fossil fuels in the U.S. It states that California proposes high-speed trains that could reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12 billion pounds per year by 2030. It argues that bus rapid transit, in which buses run in dedicated lanes, is a low-cost alternative to building train lines. It suggests the government should offer Americans with the incentives to drive less and offer tax breaks based on annual miles driven and congestion pricing.
