    • Abstract:
Over the years, new and better visual aids, primarily in the form of films, have become available. But films also contain a built-in form of rigidity, in the sense that normally the entire reel must be shown before discussion takes place. Therefore, the instructor cannot choose to use only a portion of the film. An additional tool for labor history courses is now available in the form of nine cassettes, which contain excerpts of speeches by labor leaders or by prominent Americans about labor-related events. "Early Social Issues and Labor" contains 13 excerpts. Just completed, it has not yet been used. However, its uses appear to be unlimited since a wide variety of individuals and subjects are covered. Two excerpts are from William Jennings Bryan: one from his "Cross of Gold" speech which won him the 1896 Democratic presidential nomination, in the other, he summarizes the 1912 Democratic party platform. Teddy Roosevelt discusses a wide range of labor legislation in an excerpt from a 1912 speech from when he ran on the Bull Moose ticket.
