The political dimension of moral censorship. (English)

This paper presents the results of a research devoted to the censored words in stage plays. The studied plays belong to the Archive Miroel Silveira, a collection of censorship processes related to theatre in the State o São Paulo, Brazil, covering from 1925 to 1970. The Archive is object of a wide study project, sponsored by Fapesp, and includes the present research. We classifi ed the cuts and, by its frequency, we reached a quantitative overview, in relation to each censorship type. The comparative observation of frequency allowed us todraw conclusions about the censorship peculiarities and its mobilizations, according to the social or political context. It permitted, as well, to determine aspects of the censorship nature and its social meaning effect. The results of such investigation have been published last year. Este artigo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre as palavras censuradas em peças teatrais. As peças estudadas pertencem ao Arquivo Miroel Silveira, que reúne os processos de censura teatral do Estado de São Paulo encaminhados durante o período de 1925 a 1970. O Arquivo é objeto de um amplo projeto de pesquisa, fi nanciado pela FAPESP, que inclui a presente pesquisa. Nós classifi camos os cortes e, pela sua frequência, chegamos a uma visão quantitativa em relação a cada tipo de censura. A observação comparativa da frequência nos permitiu tirar conclusões sobre as peculiaridades da censura e suas mobilizações, de acordo com o contexto social ou político. Permitiu, também, determinar os aspectos da natureza da censura, seus efeitos e signifi cações sociais. Os resultados de tal investigação foram publicados no ano passado.
