    • Abstract:
The article reports on the increasing number of African American mothers who died due to pregnancy-related causes in New York City. The city's vital statistics revealed an increase in maternal mortality ratio as a result of a pregnancy from 68.7 in 2007 to 78.8 in 2008 and to 10.4 in 2009. Moreover, the report issued by the Department of Health showed the high risk of Cesarean sections, but failed to offer ways on how to reduce the high rate of maternal deaths.
