    • Abstract:
The article discusses the U.S. Civil War military careers of Union Army volunteer infantry officers, and brothers, John Black and William Black, with particular focus given to the actions that earned them the U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor in 1892. Therefore, the actions of both men in the Battle of Prairie Grove in Arkansas are described in great detail. Both brothers served as officers for the volunteer 37th Illinois Infantry. Wounds sustained by these men during the battle are described, as are the various military maneuvers undertaken by the 37th Illinois and their Confederate Army adversaries.
