    • Abstract:
The article examines the global social movement to end extreme poverty and the role of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of the United Nations (UN) in the effort. The formal development agendas of several low-income countries are reportedly informed by the MDG. Economic, social, political and technological processes are said to be needed to achieve such MDG outcomes as reductions in poverty, hunger, disease and environmental threats. It mentions the failure of the U.S. government to show interest in MDG advancement from 2000 to 2010. Among the reasons for pessimism about MDG are climate change and continued population growth.
