    • Abstract:
This article analyses the expansion strategy that the Danish Nordisk Films Kompagni followed during the First World War. Situated in a neutral country, the company could maintain its film exports to the belligerent nations. As the big French companies withdrew from Germany, an important share of the market became free. During the war Nordisk pursued a strategy of vertical integration within European markets - a strategy that, as the war progressed, also aimed at protecting the company against the growing American film industry.
