      One of the greatest technological advancements of the 20th century was the invention and advancement of the Internet, which in many ways became an instrument for freedom of expression for many countries that do not enjoy a free and open society. In fact, one significant element of the internet that encouraged the development of the freedom of expression in the local press was online journalism. This study examines the `perceived' affect of online journalism on expanding the freedom of the press among local columnists in of the country of Kuwait. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the impact of online journalism on columnists' perceptions of the freedom of press as a type of freedom of expression in Kuwait. The results show that columnists perceived online journalism to have a positive impact on the freedom of the press. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
