- Abstract:
The article discusses the fate of tigers in the wild and examines whether international conservation efforts will work to preserve the species. Topics include a brief overview of the fate of two Amur tigers in the Siberian Tiger Project, named Tanya and Galia, that, according to the author, reflect the fate of tigers all over the world and the impact of poaching, infectious diseases, and prey depletion on tiger survival. Also discussed are efforts by countries with tiger populations, including Russia, Bangladesh, and Bhutan, to address the global tiger decline, such as the International Tiger Conservation Forum held November 21-24, 2010, hosted by Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin.
