      The article studies the inheritance systems, degree of in-breeding, and geographical and social mobility of Catalan tenant farmers through a genealogical study of the Culubret family from the 17th to the 19th centuries. It also examines how credit markets affected the economic and social conditions of these farmers. The article finds that the system of universal and indivisible inheritance and intergenerational co-habitation adopted and practiced by Catalan tenant farmers was the result of their efforts to adapt to existing social structures and real property laws and customs.
