      The present article is based on fieldwork carried out in various French-speaking places of the Anglo-Canadian city of Toronto, particularly among French immigrants. It deals with the way language practices are subjected to numerous metalinguistic evaluations when social actors are immigrants. These kinds of discourse are useful in understanding where migrants stand in terms of identity construction, and they also account for the extent to which a language perceived as being in evolution, whether towards enrichment or towards attrition, is linked to a "national" identity engaged in processes of diversification, acculturation and/or hybridization.       Cet article, construit à partir d'un travail de terrain effectué dans divers milieux francophones de la métropole anglo-canadienne de Toronto, notamment ceux de l'émigration française, s'intéresse aux multiples discours métalinguistiques évaluatifs dont les pratiques langagières sont l'objet lorsque des locuteurs sont en situation de migration. Ces discours permettent souvent de cerner les positionnements identitaires des migrants et de voir en quoi la perception d'une langue qui s'enrichit ou au contraire s'étiole est liée à la perception d'une identité « nationale » d'origine engagée dans un processus de diversification, d'acculturation et d'hybridation.
