- Abstract:
The article presents information on internet usage in China, as of February 2011. It focuses on the distinctive aspects of Chinese internet access associated with the rule of the Chinese Communist Party, which censors and blocks many foreign sites such as microblogging service Twitter and internet search firm Google. The ways in which the increasing popularity of technological innovations such as online social networks are likely to affect Chinese culture are analyzed. Examples of awkward online social encounters, nonconformist self-expression, and increased information flow are cited.
