The article looks at technological innovations which are helping to improve the health, economic, and social conditions of developing countries in Africa's desert regions. The author comments on how climate changes have led to droughts that have extended the desert areas. Wars in countries such as Somalia and Sudan are discussed, noting how similar they are to the competition between tribes for natural resources such as livestock or land. The economic conditions of desert regions are reviewed. Projects to restore farming lands in Africa are also discussed.
