Este ensayo propone una lectura cultural de las obras de arte que subraya al contexto político y cultural en las que fueron producidas, más que a sus propuestas estilísticas o técnicas. Considerando ciertas ideas de Peter Burke propone un análisis de las mismas sin enmarcarlas en una historia de la mirada, del arte o de las imágenes, ni considerarlas textos que impliquen gramáticas especializadas, sino tan sólo que los documentos gráficos o visuales de contenido artístico constituyen evidencias históricas sobre las formas de ver y representar una época determinada. Se toma como horizonte de interpretación a la pintura mexicana comprendida entre 1850-1910, donde la representación del indio fue el eje temático. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
- Abstract:
This essay proposes a cultural reading of works of art that underlines the political and cultural context in which they were produced more than their stylistic or technical proposals. Taking into consideration certain ideas of Peter Burke, it proposes an analysis of these works without framing them in the history of the gaze, of art, or of images, or considering them texts that imply specialized grammars, but rather merely that graphic or visual documents with artistic content constitute historical evidence of the ways of seeing and representing a specific period of time. The article uses Mexican painting from 1850 to 1910 as its interpretative horizon, in which the representation of the indigenous was the cross-cutting axis [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
