      The article discusses the physical nature of women's reading from 1560 to 1640 in England. The author engages with the thought of French Jesuit Michel de Certeau in order to discuss the physiology of reading. Emphasis is given to the importance of reading to cognition, textual engagement, and the process of reading in specific places, such as sewing rooms.
