- Abstract:
The article discusses debt in the U.S. Although household debt has declined since 2007, debt compiled by the federal, state, and local governments continues to grow. As a result, government obligations such as Social Security and Medicare are apt to be cut. Among stocks apt to be attractive in an era of reduced consumer spending are software maker Microsoft Corp. and beverage firm Coca-Cola. INSET: Consumers Dig Out, the Feds Dig In.
