    • Abstract:
The article looks at the social conditions of Jewish girls in the Middle East and North Africa, within the smaller family environment and the larger society, from the nineteenth century until the mid-twentieth century. It seeks to determine whether there is truth behind the assumptions that women from this culture are secluded in their homes and that girls are trained to serve the men. Basically, it will discuss how girls spent their lives, including their education, recreation and work. Changes in the social status of girls and women over the years will also be discussed.
