The article reports on the emergence of a new crop virus, called groundnut ringspot virus (GRSV), which affects peanuts and tomatoes in Florida. Research plant pathologist Scott Adkins from the Agriculture Research Service (ARS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), discusses some evidences showing the similarity between GRSV and tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV). Information on how the virus manifests and being transmitted is discussed. Adkins also admits that the research agency is hoping to adopt the same management strategy for TSWV to GRSW.
