    • Abstract:
The article features playwright and composer Gian-Carlo Menotti. He grew up in Milan, Italy, where he was known as a child prodigy. He received his earliest musical education from composition teacher Rosario Scalero at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His music has been compared to that of Giacomo Puccini in terms of melodramatic appeal. His first three-act work titled "The Consul" won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best musical in 1950.
