The article focuses on Freddie Thomason, a baby from Magnolia, Arkansas who was born without arms or legs. Freddie received medical care from New Jersey's orthopedic surgeon Henry Howard Kessler who studied his case at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation. Freddie's mother was taught by Kessler how to exercise her baby to develop his trunk muscles which she did twice a day for almost a year. Three weeks before his second birthday, Freddie was able to stand up for the first time in his life.
